Our dedicated Customer Advisors are knowledgeable and approachable. All of the topics featured in 'What to expect when shopping for an Engagement Ring' can be easily talked through in store.

What style of Engagement Ring would suit your significant other?

Our bestselling ladies Engagement Ring is a simple yet stunning solitaire. Do you think the 'more sparklier the better' will suit his/her personality? Or is a classic and simple style more suitable? The best advice would be to stick to your instinct, choose a ring design you like and try not to get too weighted down with all the information. If we do not have a style of Engagement Ring that you are looking for then our highly skilled manufacturing team can create beautiful bespoke designs in any diamond grade.

Diamonds and the Four C's = Cut, Colour, Carat & Clarity

The Four C's are simply a guide to help you make the best decision when shopping for your Engagement Ring. Brown & Newirth have a GIA trained gemologist working on site to ensure we have the best grade of Diamonds on offer in store. All our Diamonds also conform to the Kimberly Process, guaranteeing that they are only sourced from conflict-free zones.

Cut: the cut not only refers to the shape of the diamond (round, princess, emerald, oval) but the facets that the finished diamond is created by. The 'cut' of a diamond is graded 'poor' to 'excellent'. Most of the diamond engagement rings in store are graded at 'excellent'.

Colour: colourless diamonds are the most desirable with grades of colour stemming from D (colourless) to Z (light).

Clarity: most diamonds contain inner flaws, or inclusions, that occur during the formation process and most are not visible to the naked eye.

Carat: is the unit of weight upon which a diamond is measured.

Do you need a Diamond Certificate with your Engagement Ring?

Diamond Certificates are a good way to authenticate the grade of your diamond. The Diamonds at Silver Tree come with a GIA (Gemmological Institute of America) certificate over a 0.33ct weight. We do have Engagement Rings that are also certificated by IGI (International Gemmological Institute). If your Engagement Ring is not graded by a non-profit laboratory then it is only certified by the store/ dealer you have bought it from.

Do you need to know the ring finger size?

It is helpful to know the size of ring you will need but it is not a requirement. You are entitled to the first resize free of charge.

What precious metal do you prefer?

Our Engagement Rings are only offered in precious metals; white, yellow or rose Gold, Platinum and Palladium. The most popular precious metals for Engagement Rings are 18ct White Gold or Platinum. White Gold enhances the luxurious shimmer to a ring and compliments the Diamond perfectly. Although it is true that at some point your ring will need re-plating, as White Gold is essentially Yellow Gold mixed and coated; together with Brown & Newirth we offer this service free of charge three times. Platinum is the preferred metal as it is a naturally white precious metal, hypoallergenic (non-irritant), hard-wearing and needs no future maintenance.
